Greens for chickens??

We tried hanging a whole cabbage on string from the rafter in the coop. The chickens had a blast playing with their pinata. It works great and the cabbage is gone in about 6 minutes. They have something to play with and keep them occupied.

Mine don't seem to care for anything leafy and green - they never eat any of the salad leavings I give them. But they love the frozen peas!

greens --- kale, mustard greens , collard greens all are good source of vitamins A and C.AND IT GET GREENS IN SYSTEM WHEN WINTER IS HERE SUMMER THE WEEDS AND GRASS WILL DO IT IF YOU FREE ROAM .

Kale is one of the best greens for chickens and very easy to grow. I fed it until we got buried with snow in the middle of Nov. - it hasn't let up yet! Right now, I buy cabbage and give that daily, though it gets a bit expensive at 3 lbs. for a dollar. Next summer I plan to grow about 30 heads of long-term storage cabbage and store them in my garage for use during the winter.

Mine get leftover greens, and occasionally a flake of alfalfa hay that I break up for them. Since they don't eat the stems, there has been no problem with impacted crop. And scattering their sunflower seeds & scratch among the remains of the hay flake really keeps them busy scratching.

I went to my grocery store and found a can where people throw their wilted leaves (from greens, cabbage and lettuce) I asked if I could get some. They only charged me 75 cents for about 2 lbs. My girls love it and it was cheeeeep.
