Greens for quail

Plant some millet and when the shoots appear wait a few days, then harvest the shoots chop them up and give them to your quail as part of a balanced diet. THEY LOVE THEM !!! a few of you probs already know this but i thought i could help out some newbies !!

Thanks 4 the heads up, as a newbie I also read that giving them tomatoes to peck on is good. Question do they eat the tomato or just peck it? Also any good organic way to keep flys down, live in north Fla. It gets hot here. Thanks Jamie

I live in florida also and I use diatomacous earth (food grade) to keep flies at bay. It will need to be re-applied to keep working. Another idea I have yet to try is hanging ziplock bags of water close to the pens. The flies see their reflection and are frightened by it for some reason. I was at a burger hut in jacksonville once and witnessed this technique in action. Not one fly came anywhere near our picnic table. I wouldn't hang them where poop can drop on them though.

I think they would just peck it however they might have a small nibble but they wouldnt eat the whole thing !!

Yo Homeboy how goes it?? Nice and hot at the beach?? I know about the DE and the BBQ uses the waterbags Ill try them. Just all the rain we keep getting messes up the DE and i have the hanging fly paper and get them by the hundreds. PS did you get the hovabator??? still need the info?? sorry Im a slug and forgot! Its all good. yeah, I got a hovabator with the thermometer (like yours), the fan kit, and the quail rails. The rails hold 120 quail eggs. I put 12 jumbo eggs in my small incubator and am waiting for 60 Texas A&M eggs. This is a pic of my new pen but I may need another if they all hatch. I haven't been to the beach yet. The rain has been awful here in the last week. I got the turkey mount here in one piece. He was getting some funny looks on the highway, riding in the passenger seat.

Wow The new pen looks good, Did u use the same basic structure 1X1s etc just longer? Like the Green over the white may try building a new one myself. My 7 girls are 7/7 every day and the "biddies' are about ready to be culled. going to go with 12 girls 3 guys and the rest in the freezer! Then going to try my hand at about 30+ in the hovabater. next month around the 15th. so Ill keep ya informed. Try to find the waxed/plastic coated cardboard, all the girls lay in it now and its easy for anyone to get eggs or add sand to just 1 box. Ill look also, I know the post office uses it but thats all. Take care and watch for falling planes!

Sounds good. I am expecting a dozen to hatch on about monday and 80+ on a week after that. I doubt that they will all hatch, when they came in the mail they were really hot. They were insulated good though.
Yeah, used same wood as on the others. They have em 8' at lowes. I had to go with green cause they had one busted up and I was able to talk em down on the price on it. I had more than enough even after trimming the busted end off. I had about $150 in this cage. The 1/2" screen was around $60, wood was about $40, the roof was about $40, plus the hardware. I had the enough of the screws.... they would'a run another 15-20 (for the kind I use: outdoor 2.5" deck screws) I think a nail gun would make it a lot easier though and cheeper.
The road is apparently still partially closed out there. I think its 2 drones in as many weeks from what I read online. She had to leave real early to get there on time today. Me and the kids just got back from NC last night. That trip sucked.... its way longer than from JAx. took me 12 hours with traffic and rain coming home... I got up in about 10 on the way there though.
The reality co. we were leasing from over there gave us our deposit back. They even gave our non-refundable pet deposit back. She said she in her many yrs she never had one so clean. I think she said she did see the garden and liked it I think. If the people don't want it we may still hear something though. Have they moved in yet? Did you see the noodle on the powerlines? HAHAHAHa!
I will keep you posted on the birds, when I start getting eggs I am gonna send you as many as you want.
