It was c-c-c-cold! Most of January was relatively mild and we thought we'd escaped real winter, but alas, it has arrived with a vengeance.Hi pozees, how is the weather in Pueblo Colorado this morning?

How funny you should say that, I tried last year to talk DH into adding a couple of geese, with no luck. Then I wound up taking a new job that changed my hours and left him with morning duty all winter, so it isn't likely I'll get his mind changed unless he happens to see some and fall in love.Welcome to BYC!! So you don't want goats...but how about some geese??Never a dull moment with the feathered toddlers around!
Thanks for joining our flock!!
What kind do you have? I think DH was frightened as a child by his grandmother's geese so I would need to demonstrate different, friendlier temperaments to him. I'm sure some are generally calmer than others, less intimidating, what would your recommendation be? He's also become quite a bird lover in general, and if there was an additional motivation, like a legacy breed needing preservation or something similar that might help my cause ...Oh just let me know when you need cute goose pics for persuasion!! We've got that covered on BYC!! And it's almost gosling season!!![]()
Love them! Seems I read something about CP some years back, I'll have to read about them again. Are they particular about housing, need water to swim in? We're in a climate known as Alpine Desert - it isn't uncommon for us to have only 12 inches of rain per year. No bodies of water on our property. I'm not opposed to using a kiddie pool if that's enough for them in warmer weather, but not sure I could reasonably provide it all winter. When we aren't here to keep watch our chickens are in chain link runs with chain link tops and shade cloth in summer, runs are 6'x12', and last year I cut way back on chickens so I actually have an open run right now, that I could put a goose house in, and I can already hear myself getting in trouble LOLThen my recommendation would definitely be Cotton Patch geese!! Smaller than a lot of the breeds, and generally fairly calm. I have a CP gander "Chance" that I'm obsessed with. They are listed as critical by the Livestock Conservation....and absolutely beautiful!!

The one with the bow is his lady "BB". She's a saddleback Pomeranian which is another breed that is unique and needs some help! Wonderful personality, and fairly quiet.
