Just dutifully introducing myself here. I have scoured the BYC pages many times since starting to raise chicks last year, and so far have found great information to help me along. We started out with 10 chicks, 6 Black sex links and 4 Rhode Island reds... unfortunately there were some incidents with predators and we lost all our reds and our roo... a nesting pair of eagles and a great blue heron seemed to be the culprits. We've got their run better protected now and the eagles seem to have left now that their baby is grown, and we've had no further losses this season. We've got a new cockerel, handsome little guy though I have not been able to identify the breed.
