-Should have given location. We're on L.I., New York. Chickens have just become legal here this year (an unusual benifit of the recession). Years ago we were chicken outlaws. It's nice to have them legally now and not have to worry about being ratted on by your neighbors!

I'm in NE Ohio. Just keep em now that they're legal, and no one can take em away even if they change the law later on! You can claim the whole 'grandfather' clause... someone I know had the oldest chickens in history because who can say if they were pullets or old hens?

Unless they have night scopes trained on your coop, you can bring in pullets and take away old hens to your hearts content!
