This year my husband and I bought a home complete with a large chicken coop....so in all my
inexperienced brilliance, I decided to raise chickens to help feed my "growing flock" of teenage boys! A friend of mine gave me 6 "mixed breed" chicks...4 of which turned out to be roosters

, and 1 poor runt of a deformed Silkie that was almost dead! (She knows I'm a sucker and would nurse it back to health). So with the two hens I ended up with, I've entered a last month countdown to egg laying!!

Since then I've added 2 Plymouth Rock, 2 Rhode Island Reds, and 4 ducks...2 Pekin and 2 Khaki Campbell. THEN...my neighbor gave me 3 more chickens and this is where my ignorance comes in....all I know about them is they are just older than my first chicks, I have NOOO idea what they are or if they're hens or roos? I'm going out to try and get pics...hopefully they'll cooperate!!

Oh gee, I always say "beware of friends bearing chickens." I don't mean to imply that they knowingly dump roosters but, gift chicks generally morph into males about the time you fall in love with them.

About the only way to avoid "oops roosters," is to buy sex link hens or birds that are already laying.

Howdy! Oh yeah, that chicken math will get you in trouble every time. Then there is Murphy's Law of Poultry. Chances are you have more roosters than you need.

So these are my 3 mystery chickens...the 2 on the bottom are super small and the first one is just slightly larger...I would love to know what they are if anyone has an idea?!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sure sounds like chicken math has taken ahold of your flock!
Your new birds, the first looks like a Blue Cochin, are either of the other two kinda short legged, they look a lot like a Gray and a White Japanese
