welcome and i am also in nc , in the piedmont in a little township called sophia which is between randleman and asheboro...i am seeking blue orphingtons or splash orphingtons but dont seem to find them in this neck of the woods. if anyone out there has them and would like to sell females to me i would greatly appreciate it. I am seeking young pullets or even chicks if they are about 5 weeks old. By the way does anyone out there have a way of telling me how to seek the females from the males for this breed. it is my understanding that it is very difficult but willing to learn. thanks, and welcome to the group. maria

Unfortunately, I can't help you with the Orpingtons. I did find an add on Charlotte's Craiglist recently that advertised Orpingtons, but not sure if they were blue/splash or the mundane buff. Hope you find them, though.

Thanks! Checked out your BYC page and loved those coop construction pics! I myself am building a coop right now with a similar design, only I have one side of it opening up to a large, fenced-off section of pasture that I let my two goats graze in. The goats are big enough to dissuade some of the smaller predators like foxes and weasels from getting too close. As for coyotes and coons, well, there's always my .22 rifle.
