Hey everyone, I'm a first time chicken owner who's been raising 6 ISA brown chickens for the past two years. I've been a long time fan of this site and have finally decided to join. I sadly lost one of my girls last month to suspected egg binding. and this afternoon another one of my hens laid a broken soft shell egg, the egg itself easily came out the soft shell got stuck and I had to pull it out. she seems lively and chirping but I'm worried that she may soon get egg bound. I couldn't bare to lose another hen, can anyone help?

Welcome to BYC!

That's hard losing a bird (or any other animal) we've grown fond of, I'm sorry for your loss. As for your other chickens, do they have a ready supply of oyster shell available to them at all times? If you put some out for them, they will eat it when they need an additional calcium fix. Also, there are certain foods that will give them a calcium boost, such as dark greens (like broccoli).
