We live in Grants Pass in the Rogue Valley located about an hour North of the California border. We have four seasons here with a brief coating of snow in the winter, a beautiful Fall often with an Indian summer and a gorgeous spring which in some years allows us to plant way before the expected May 15th frost free date. We have a month of super hot summer weather where the temps get to 105 degrees but that lasts only about 3 or 4 weeks.
We just started chickens last March. we had eggs after 4 months.
We took our old dog kennel and my husband did some fancy carpentry and we now have a chick palace.
the dog doesn't care, he didn't use it anyway.
I have a mix of chickens, 2 auracanas, a rhode island red, a bard rock, some bantys, a couple of Orpingtons. We started with 14 and now have 10.
7 hens and 3 roosters. We have too many roosters but I'm not sure what to do with them.
I'd like to let my hens brood and get a few more girls in the flock.
I'm not sure egg-sacxly the proper way to raise chicks but I;m sure learning a lot reading this forum!!
love to talk with some of you.

Welcome, glad you are here, sounds like a lovely flock! We also acquired too many roosters our first time, but you muddle through and figure it out! Loving the chicken life!

Hello,
I am from Rogue River! I live in Western Washington now. You'll have to give us a report on the Rooster Crow Contest, this summer!

Hi Chubby Chicken!
I love the Rooser Crow! You bet, I will give you a report! Maybe I will enter one of my roosters!!! That would be a first for me!
