My wonderful husband and I are new to keeping chickens, and loving it! We have six 9-10 week old girls (had them since 1ish wks old): American Bresse (Betty White), Buff Orpington (Beef), Silver Laced Wyandotte (Minerva), Speckled Sussex (Pudding), Rhode Island Red (Lucille) and Araucana (Squidge). These girls are for eggs and cuddles and we plan on giving them their best life to the last.

Their current home is in an Omlet Cube tractor coop with a 9 foot run while we build a 10x12 walk-in secure run. The Cube will securely ‘dock’ with the walk-in run for larger space/enrichment but still give us the freedom to move the girls to other parts of the yard to change up their scenery. We have hawks in the area so our priority is their safety. (Currently we have them parked under a giant spruce to give extra shelter from some weather we have rolling in over the next few days)

We’ve researched our choices thoroughly and happily two of my coworkers are very experienced, so we’ve had excellent guidance and love this learning process. We’re always open to expanding our knowledge base! Our next door neighbors had chickens for the last 8 years, and they were so fun to watch. They’ve recently moved away so we’re filling that void with ladies of our own. 🤍

Joining this community is so exciting; we want to share and grow. Viewing some of these posts over the last couple days has left us thoroughly impressed at the dedication you all have to your flocks! We’re loving the creativity here and science-based approaches. Looking forward to reading your wisdoms and journeys!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Sage & Patrick
