Hi ya'll! Recently transplanted from Boston and have always wanted to raise laying hens. Am living in nifty situation to do so but am wondering if it's too late in the season to get started? I would love to have a sit-down and coffee with a local chicken mentor... Obviously I am brand-new to this territory but eager and excited. Thanks! -- Ann

from NM! There are sure a bunch of members up that way that would probably love to have coffee and chat chickens!

Hi! I'm a new member and also in Corvallis. I'm new to this... so not a good mentor, but I'd be happy to help anyway I can. Check out Craig's List. There is a lady on there from Monmouth that grows hundreds of chicks out and sells them as 11 week chicks, 16 week pullets, etc.... I'm not sure if she is still in the chick- mode, but she was a life saver when dogs killed half my flock. Feed stores around here gear up in spring. The local thing is to special order ahead of time, from Denson's, the breeds you want, and then pick the day old chicks up at Denson's April 1st.

Welcome! I was just driving around your area last weekend because we want to move there (I'm a few hours away from you now). I bet you do have a great situation for chickens! I love the farming opportunities plus the fact that you can head out to the beach! Good for you! We can email each other if you'd like and I'll be in your area every once in a while (family in Eugene takes me there alot). I got my girls from a farmer in Puyallup, I've been meaning to send him a note and big thanks, they are incredible! Highly suggest local person as opposed to the mail...
