Hatching
Hello, all. I am new to this forum and to raising chickens. I hope to learn a lot so that in a month of so we will be ready to purchase some chickens!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes I am am a newbie. When I was a kid we lived out in the country and had chickens, but that was a very long time ago and I was very young so don't remember anything other then that. Now that we live in Costa Rica, I'd really like to try my hand at raising a few chickens for the eggs. I guess I'm still a country girl at heart.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None yet, but would like 3 or 4.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Not sure what's available here. Most of the ones I've seen are brown or black.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Looking for plans on small coops.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, photography crafts and cooking.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm married with 3 grown children and 5 grandson's (no granddaughters sigh). We have two rescue dogs, a Basenji and a beagle/pitbull mix. and also 4 cats.
Three years ago we moved to Costa Rica from Indiana and love the simplicity of life here. In the US we had so many things that we thought we needed, but here life is much more simple and you learn that you really can do without all the material things you had back in the states. If I had to compare, I'd say life here is much like the 50s in the US.
