Hello fellow members! I am an urban micro-farmer with not-too grand aspirations of possible future expansion. Right now I live in the heart of down town Meriden with my father, boyfriend, husky ,4 cats, 4 goldfish, two turkeys, and five chickens. My flock consists of a midget white tom, a royal palm tom, serama roo, standard brahma roo and 3 hens, Jersey Black giant, Easter egger, and 1/2 bantam white leghorn. I have goals of someday developing the perfect meat bird (who doesn't) I want to coss buckeye, buff brahma, salmon faverolles, and white laced standard cornish roosters with some hybrid-cross hens(some white/some red-brown); Hybrid hens for the growth and muscling, and heritage meat/dual-purpase cocks for vigor, aesthetics, plumage density, and foraging temperament. Good thing is that roos are just about given away 'round these parts, and we all know how cheap and easy it is to obtain hybrid broilers. I was inspired to undertake the project by this website. I read a thread on breeding birds for meat qualities and it got me thinkin'. As of now, I am building a hoop house and leasing some land on the shoreline in CT, where I am working on planting an orchard. What I am hoping get from this fourm is finding other breeders in the southern New England/tristate area for me to obtain chicks and grown birds from. Is there anybody out in CT, MA, RI or NY who can help me find some standard cornish, faverolles, and/or buckeye roosters?
