I figured I've been lurking long enough and with my first chicks arriving in a few weeks I decided to become a member to post some questions that have probably been asked numerous times already. I do my best to search for what I'm looking for and have had great success with vast amount of experience from your community forum. I'll have 15 chicks consisting of Rhode Island Reds, Rhode Island Whites, Buff Orpingtons, Red Sex Links and Brown Leghorns.

My wife and myself have been wanting to get chickens and finally have some property that will accommodate the flock. I'll be using part of one of my metal buildings to convert a 10' X 10' section into the coop. I've already built the brooder and have the needed supplies, getting a little nervous the closer we get though.

I enjoy all kinds of carpentry/building/plumbing/electrical and have recently finished remodeling my house. We have three Shar-Peis who love running property and chasing all the wildlife. I have some designs to still build for the coop and have found a wealth of information here. I stumbled upon this site about a year ago when we made the decision to get the chicks.
