Greetings from Georgia

Thanks for the warm welcome! This is something that we really can't wait to get into with the chickens. Have been speaking with my great aunt about the chickens she and my uncle used to have (some of the pens / coops they used are still up..not that we would use those..but still neat after all these years).

Still will be a few weeks till I think we'll start looking for some. Trying to figure out where in the field we're looking at keeping them to set things up.

Hello, from North Ga.
Will you be selling honey in the near future?

Eventually, both of our hives this year are new colonies so they don't make as much honey as an established one.

My first plan was to split my hives each year till we get to maybe 16. But with the way one of my hives seems to be struggling a little, might not be as aggressive on doing that.

Plus there seems to of been a bit of a dearth this year, I checked my boxes last week and one of my colonies hadn't even started building comb in the super, so I took it off and will most likely have to put a feeder back on so that they can build their winter stockpile. The other box is a maybe that I might get some honey out of it.

So at this point I'm more or less focusing on getting the girls ready for the winter and will see what next year brings!

We can trace ownership back to the 1820's here.

Don't seem to have many families like ours anymore in these parts, like it used to be. Quite a bit of development has taken place in the 10+ years that I moved away. Have another old "clan" down the road from us that seem to still be hanging on as well but there are more sub divisions than I care to count where I used to know the families who owned that land.

But yeah the wife and I are trying to see if we can make our little area stay the way it is for another generation or so.

Hi from Perry GA, my husband keeps talking about bees , I'm afraid we may be going in that direction soon. We just got started with chickens 29 of them. He's a farmer at heart.
