Hello to all.
My wife and I are getting ready to start an egg laying mini flock of about 4-6 birds. We have 2 acres with about one third of that fenced, which the birds will have regular access to. I am converting an out building to use for the coop, I think it used to be a coop many years ago due to the slide up doors on the north side but am currently removing the sheetrock from the inside. Also finding many old mouse/rat nests in the ceiling but will be putting my rat zapper out there to help with that. I will also be using our old dog run for a small run for them if we need to contain them without forcing them to stay in the coop. I have been researching coops, feeding/care and many other things about chickens on here and from a couple books I borrowed from friends.
We were thinking of getting easter eggers online but have since found someone local that has some green egg layers they want to get rid of. I think starting with older chickens would be easier and less money intensive to start and if that works out might expand later. We have an australian shepard dog that will hopefully get along with them and our 5 year old daughter is excited. It will be a couple weeks till the coop is ready, cant hardly wait!! Will be posting other questions soon so if I ask something stupid please don't prevent me from getting my chicken chasing license....Later Jere

Hi and :welcome

Good luck with your coop and chickens, sounds like you have a good plan.
Hopefully your dog will like the birds too!

Don't worry about stupid questions, I'm sure we've all asked our share of those when we were starting out.
I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. :D
