We just moved to N Idaho from MS. We've been raising chickens for about 5 years, but we're just now getting into hatching. We have about 80 chickens right now, 20 ducks, and 2 geese. We like rare and unique birds that are great egg layers too. Right now we breed:
Gold, Silver, Blue/Red, and Columbian Wyandottes
Silver Grey Dorking
Easter Egger
Double laced Barnevelder
Salmon Faverolle
Speckled Sussex
Mille Fleur D'Uccle
Barred Rock
Rhode Island Red
Jersey Giant
White Leghorn
Australorp
Soon various Marans
Plus Indian Runners, Khaki Campbell Ducks, and French Toulouse Geese.
We keep the roosters and hens separate most of the time. The hens have their own side of the barnyard and the ducks have a small pond they spend most of their time hanging out by. The roosters hang out with our Alpacas and Llamas.
We have 3 little girls under 2yo. 2 are twins, they love watching the animals run around.
I've lost a couple roosters the last few weeks, I think it's time to put out a live trap.
