Hello,
My husband and I are new to the world of chickens although we've had our little group (8 hens and a very proud rooster who was a surprise) since March of this year, now heading into our first winter. When we bought our property 5 years ago, it came with a small barn that had a built-in chicken coop and even had a nice size run built as well. All we had to do was clean it, fix some of the fencing on the run and add the doors. We also added aviary netting over the top of the run to keep the hawks and owls out. The fence is for the coyotes! It was hard to let that chicken coop go to waste and not use it for what it was intended for....
The rooster is a Buff Orpington (called Trouble or Mr T for short). The girls are as follows: 1 buff orpington (Buffy), 1 plymouth barred rock (Stripes), 2 black sex-links (Blackie and Brownie), 2 black australorps (Austra and Nasty Girl) and 2 Americaunas (Big Girl and Baby Girl). What a hoot they all are!!
I've read some great tips and advice from this website and thought it might behoove me to join up. So here I am.
Toto sends his greetings!
