Hello, my name is Sam! I am completely new to chickens. I'm also relatively new to owning pets at all. My mother was afraid of animals and transmitted that fear to me. I've been slowly working on getting to where I am comfortable around animals. I started with cats and now I love those cats. Moved on to chickens (13 hens and 1 rooster) because my neighbor was selling them. I was told they only have: Americana, leghorn, and barred rock but some of my girls don't look like any of those breeds so I'm not really sure what I have. Really hoping I can learn a lot on this site but moreso get over my fear of animals. Currently I am terrified of my own chickens. *ashamed*

Hello Sam! Welcome to BYC! Good luck with your flock! I hope you can get past your fear! 🙂

Hi Sam, being afraid is nothing to be ashamed of. The more you learn about the animals in your life and the more time you spend with them, the less you'll be afraid. You can always ask questions in the forums and the Learning Center can give you a lot of helpful information: Learning Center Articles

Make yourself at home here and thanks for joining us!

Hiya, Sam, and welcome to BYC! :frow

You will certainly get over your fears of chickens.

If you want to verify their breeds, you can post pictures here so we can see your beautiful chickens, or if you're not ready yet, we have a forum for folks to help identify Breed or Gender. Just post the pictures there if you like.

We're glad you're here!
