Greetings from N. Idaho

I love how dark the night sky is and the brightness of the stars. To me, coyotes sound like a pack of screaming women and crying babies. Plenty of raccoons, skunks and porcupines, in this area. Enough to keep me making a concerted effort to have a decent chicken coop.

I saw a black bear three years ago, while grouse hunting and my second year of school, I saw a grizzly. To describe them as "big" does injustice to big animals. Grizzlies are HUGE. A big one is over 12 feet tall, on it's hind legs. As I did not see this one on it's hind legs, I cannot speak to that. Only that it was larger than the elk herd that was doing it's best to look as nonchalant as I was, while easing slowly in the opposite direction. I was grouse hunting with a muzzle loader and was NOT loaded for bear. Loaded to do the smallest possible damage to a bird slightly smaller than a bantam. And I'd get one shot. It was an eye-opening experience. Me, at the bottom of the food chain. Heck, a handful of chipmunks could probably slaughter me if they ever decided to gang up.

Shaq is 7'2"...

Grizzlies do not get frightened.

However you'd be astonished at how angry they can become.

My brother said a full grown moose can be 10' at the shoulder. That sounds about right for my visual experiences with moose, but again, I've never walked up and measured one for a suit or a doctor's check-up.

Montana's record wolf is now over 230 pounds. I guess they are right. A wolf is not a dog. They are TREMENDOUS to see running.
