Hello! I am finally posting after digging through the forums here for the past two months. I’m sure in the future I will be asking questions as my chicks grow and mature, and if/when I expand into other poultry species (looking at you, coturnix quails)
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Technically not new, but the last time I had them was 15 years ago. I first had pet chickens when I was 12.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 23 chicks that I recently hatched from local and shipped eggs
(3) What breeds do you have?
Silver and gold laced wyandottes, Bresse Gauloise, naked necks, and 5 mixed layer hybrid chicks I hatched from eggs I got from a friend. I think she has ISA Brown and/or Rosa hens, and a few different roosters. I’m excited to see what these little mutts will look like as adults!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Chickens are beautiful, fun to watch and play with, they give fresh eggs and meat, and provide manure for the garden.
(5) What are some of your other
hobbies?
I make and sell pottery (when I have time, which is scarce lately)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a husband, two young kids, and a dog. We live in rural Poland, but I’m actually an American.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I discovered BYC when I was looking for info about hatching eggs and incubator reviews (I bought a Borotto Real 24 automatic after reading some reviews here). The wealth of knowledge in these forums is invaluable!
