Greetings from Queensland!

Hi,

Almost three years ago, I went to deliver a chair to a local lady. She had lots of chickens running around her garden. It fascinated me how they just did their own thing, or came over for a chat. Two months later, our garden had a suitable fence and a tractor coop & run were in place. Thunderbirds are go! We welcomed a black Australorp, an Isa Brown and a Rhode Island to our family.
At the moment we have four hens, two of which are still laying. Tomorrow afternoon we are driving up to a nearby poultry farm (Poultry n Paddock) to get another two hens. They have various heritage breeds, and I'm excited to see them.
We currently have a black Australorp, a Leghorn, a Leghorn cross and a Belgian d'Uccle Bantam. Their coop and run were their safe haven at night until a fox wandered through and grabbed two hens by opening the lid on the nesting boxes. The Leghorn then took charge, and they have all been sleeping in our mango tree at night, out of reach to predators. Smart buggers!
My other hobbies include interior design and cooking. I'm a very visual person, and easily distracted by all my senses. I find the chickens very grounding and calming.
I've lived in Australia for 27 years, having married an Australian backpacker overseas. We live in Maryborough, a regional town in Queensland. Our three children have all left home, but we're still living in the same big Queenslander home with three cats and a Westie - all very protective of the chooks.
I'm currently doing online studies in Human Services, which is both interesting and stressful. More the reason to get de-compressing chickens! 🥰
I joined BYC because I need somewhere to ask questions when they arise. With all the photos, I was immediately on board 😲

Cheers
Anna
