Greetings from SC! :D

Squeee! She's beautiful! So that's what Deedee is going to look like. She's only just looking chicken-y, having lost all her chick fuzzies. :D She and her sister are currently out in a moveable pen, chasing flies (and you ain't seen anything funny til you've seen baby Brahmas chasing a fly LOL)

hahahahahahaha.... It's a he.... The first photo is Hercules, my Brahma boy.... But he's too small for European standard.

Is he full grown in that pic? My hubby is still a bit in the dark about how big these ladies are going to get...Michelle and I just keep snickering quietly to each other. ::evil laugh:: It's going to be awesome...

he was about 7 months in the photo... Brahmas are slow growers... And as most larger breeds they are considered mature at older age... The final form and size is to be expected at 2 years old though some friends in Europe said experienced breeders could have a good estimation on how they will be around 18months old....

So 18 months old is the proper age to choose your best birds for future parent stock....

Bless you, BYC, for hosting a forum...I am looking forward to meeting fellow chicken fans!

I've been in love with chickens since I was 6. When Mom was in her chair, reading to my younger sisters, I was sprawled on the floor, paging through catalogs from McMurray Hatchery! Since I was born and raised in Chicago, there was no outlet for my wee obsession; Mom thought I'd lost my mind. LOL Finally, one year shy of 50, my chickie dreams have come true: I have 4 Barred Rocks who lay their little hearts out for me (Rotisserie, Scrambled, Poached and Dumpling), a psychotic roo of mixed heritage named Leroy who has put the fear of God into stray cats, hawks and family members alike (yep, named after big bad Leroy Brown), and my daughter and I each have a Brahma hen. Michelle's is a buff (Deedee) born on Easter, mine is a light (Stella), born a week later. Stella has a 'tude, even at this early age, and should be fine with my Rock girls, but Deedee has us a bit concerned: she is cuddly, sweet and loving and only occasionally sticks up for herself when Stella is acting like a butt. ;) Gramps is even chicken-crazy now and was overheard bragging about Stella and Deedee to the inlaws yesterday at a Mother's Day get-together. :)

I am delighted to make your acquaintance, everyone! :love
:goodpost: :thumbsup :welcome

Looking forward to Brahm-zilla. >:D If Hubby had seen that video with the Brahma roo that's been going around, he might have dragged me over to the Orpington brooder when I was chick shopping. ::evil laugh:: Our psychotic Golden Comet cross Leroy is about to be re-homed (or stewed)...there is a Brahma roo in my future...he will be glorious... >:D
