After many years of going back and forth about owning chickens my husband and I have finally decided to go for it. My father-in-law breeds Bragg Mountain Bluffs in OK, so we plan on getting our chicks from him - perhaps even from the family named for my husband (he named the different families after his children). The house we live in now has an approximately 20' x 8' dog run with a small covered area for shade. I plan on using this area for the chickens (we are only planning on 3 or 4 hens), and want to put a coop in the shaded area. My biggest concern in El Paso is the heat, we've had 100 + days for over a month now, and I'm not sure how that will affect chickens. Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning more about chickens - I've always wanted some and am now finally in a position that allows me to have them! Glad to be a part of Backyard Chickens and look forward to a long and productive relationship with y'all
