New member to BYC, but have used it as a resource for years. It's an awesome site! I've had chickens for 5 years in an upscale Orange County suburb .... hahaha a curiosity to everyone around here! They can look at me funny, but I totally LOVE my chickens. And believe me, strange looks or not, they all want my girls' eggs

. I recently added 9 new chicks and crossing my fingers that a few of them are not male. Two were unsexed (Houdan and Silkie) and I still can't tell...only 5-6 weeks old. And two were supposed to be sexed (EE's) but are decidedly bossy and square-off against each other!! One in particular picks on all the other chicks pretty much all the time. Sigh. None of the other chicks have this behavior and none of my older hens did either. I'm hoping it turns out to be the Queen B*$$* and has just been establishing a pecking order. At any rate, I will be sorely disappointed if a potential of 4 out of the 9 are lil guys.

I realllly need to have a quiet, happy hen house. But until they crow I am having a huge hoot of a time watching them grow leaps and bounds every day

MY neighbors called code enforcement... and the chickens don't even live here at my house! THEY won't be getting any eggs!

Good to have you here! This place is a hoot and a half.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Trying to avoid someone calling code enforcement ... luckily this city is still zoned for farm animals from days gone by, but I really do not want my neighbors to be disturbed ... so keeping my fingers crossed! One 'roo would probably be ok (as people seem to stay behind closed doors and windows all the time...boring) ... but more than one 'roo and, yikes, I may have problems.
