Went outside to see if my dog was ready to come in for the night and almost stepped (barefoot, of course) on this little beauty and her children. I think she and I were both glad I didn't. She didn't have too many babies along for the ride but they were pretty big so I assume most have been lost or already left home. Anyway, here she is.

Very pretty, I think.

GOOD LORD!!!!
I'd have wet my pants.

I guess she is pretty...I guess....but whew!

I have a working relationship with my spiders in and around my house....as long as they stay up high and away, I don't mind sharing my space...but come down to my level and out you go. If that baby was anywhere near my house I think I'd have to move! hahaha

Glad ya didn't squash her though...we all have a purpose right...

GORGEOUS wolf spider! I have those around my house...and sometimes in my house.....but not until later in the year. She kinda looks like a Carolina wolf spider. What was the approx. leg span? She looks like a big, healthy specimen. Clearly she is an accomplished mama spider!

I would say her leg span was in the 3" range. When I first glanced down and saw her I almost thought she was a smallish tarantula (my wolf spiders are generally smaller). She was definitely very healthy and pretty. I was actually kinda surprised by her, too. Not quite the time of year I would expect her, and as I said, the babies were quite large so not newly hatched. I absolutely adore spiders so I was pretty happy to see her.

Yeah, ok....so if it was ME that saw "her"

Ohhhh, I am sooooooo scared of spiders. A few years ago, I was on the phone with my sister in Cincinatti...of course as always, had to potty, so I go into the bathroom, only to be held hostage in there by a spider, sitting over the doorway. It was a black spider...and I have to admit...had pretty eyes..almost a turquois color....but it KNEW I was scared...I would approach the door...it would move to the center of the doorway...I would step back...it would step back to the corner. Almost like it was waiting for me to go under so it could attack from above!! My sister was laughing at me on the phone, I was in panick mode. Seriously...tears and all....I could NOT get out of that bathroom. After about 15 minutes...sis finally convinced me to try and smash it with the plunger....ok, I can do this...so I grab the plunger...and go towards the spider to which is going to meet its doom...as I reach up there to " do it in" The darned thing JUMPS ON THE PLUNGER...and starts for me! I swear...no drugs..no alcohol...it was in attack mode! I threw the plunger...ran from the bathroom...and kept right on running right out of the house. When DH got home from owrk, there I was, sitting on the front porch. I would NOT go back in untill he did a clean sweep. Yeah, me and spiders dont get along.

I hate spiders, yet opened this thread. What the heck is wrong with me?!?!
If I saw that in my yard i would die. In my house and I would run screaming for my moms.

story: when I lived in NC my x husband and i were on the way back from the base beach. As we are driving along the back access road I saw something in the road ahead of us. Thought it was a turtle. Oh No. It was a freaking HUGE SPIDER! I swear the thing had a leg span of a dinner plate. Large freaking body as well. We had a convertible and my lovely x slowed down as we passed it. He said it was a "bird spider" All I wanted to do was step on the accelerator so we could get away from it as fast as possible.

BEAUTIFUL!!!! We have some amazing critters on this earth.

Look at this lovely lady, she spent all last summer living beside my water spigot and left 3 egg sacks when she left.
