Greetings From Vegas

Beautiful coop there is only one thing I would change. The roost poles are too close together - birds on one roost will bump birds on the next roost. There should be enough space for birds on any roost to turn around without bumping into anything.

Also chickens are not perching breeds like wild birds. They prefer to have their feet laid straight out in front of them at night, so they can rest their heads on top .In cold weather this also keeps their feet warm. 2 x 4's make good roosts with the wide (4") side UP.

Hi, yes, this coop is a work in progress. One of the perches spins which scares my ladies. It's gone tomorrow. I did get the impression that they perched. They have spent 5 months indoors and they have (since about 8 weeks old) slept in a row on the rail of their playpen. Interesting. I wonder why they didn't want to sleep in the soft foofies of the playpen. Thanks for the info!
I will take out the second perch for sure.

Welcome from New Orleans, sounds like you will fit right in, hope you enjoy this site. Also hope your DH figures out what he wants to do with the a/c before next summer!
Hi, thanks for the welcome!
I'll start nagging him in February and we should be fully operational by May.
Or there will be some chicken house guests!
