I am a brand new chicken owner, a crazy dream finally come true for me! We purchased seven chicks, 3 Black Copper Marans, 2 Rhode Island Reds and 2 New Hampshire Reds. They are doing great in our house right now under a heat bulb and my husband and I are busily constructing a beautiful chicken coop and run for their commencement into the great outdoors!
I found BackYardChickens.com while doing searches on topics like coops, runs, cleaning coops, composting and with each search, I found I kept coming back to this site. I thought, "Boy, I just need to join this group, it's great!"
I am a stay at home mom of five children in SC, pursuing my Master's Degree in Education with diligent and uncomplaining assistance from my husband (well....a teeny tiny bit of griping!) with all of my hobby farm and gardening dreams. We also have three dogs and a cat and I sometimes think we may eventually add a couple of milk goats.
Any suggestions are very welcome as I am very new at this. I have certainly caught the bug...I feel a little obsessed with chickens these days! Thank you for having me and I look forward to sharing and learning with you all!
