Welcome welcome!!!! I have 4 roosters and i have them all separated. My oldest roo is a Minorca. He is fine around young roos but as soon as they start to crow.....no more mister nice rooster. He stomps his feed and has a fit. My silkie roo(s) could care less, don't think they can even see the other roos. All my silkies are still together with all my other breed chicks and they don't seem to care about each other and get along pretty well. I think that if they grew up together they might be ok. Once they reach sexual maturity there will be a pecking order established. I have seen and read about roosters living fine together....as long as there are plenty of girls to go around. That is my second bit of advice, make sure you have plenty of girls to go around. All roos think about is girls and you will end up with a bunch of featherless hens if there are not enough.
All my roosters are very friendly to me....they don't like to be handled but they don't attack.
Wow, thanks for the welcomes! and some great advice, I'll keep it all in mind if I ever get another rooster. I can already see how this site is going to be very adicting!
What I've observed through my years of raising chickens is that what we consider a mean rooster is one that is really good at protecting his flock. I had a RIR roo once that would draw blood at times when people came into the yard. He was especially aggressive against men. But he saved my hens from hawks many times. When a hawk came around he would chase all the hens into the henhouse where they were safe, risking his own life to make sure that every last hen was in before he went in. He once took on a neighborhood dog and was badly injured but he chased the dog off, no hens were hurt. I wouldn't have a flock without at least one aggressive rooster.
