We are Shari and Jake Angelo and live about 1/2 mile from the water's edge of the Gulf of Mexico in a tiny town of High Island TX. I raised chickens when I was 9 years old...that was about 67 years ago. Sigh. We decided to build a coop and get some Easter Eggers to bring some color into our lives. We picked them up Monday May 8 and all 10 are excited to be here. Being a techie guy I purchased a power box that turns on our heat lamp when the temp reaches 88 degrees and off at 91. They seem to like that a lot. Our ourside temp is about 75 this time of year and the AC duct in the room they are in is closed. Once they grow a bit they will be moved to the coop where we will have a movable run 4' wide x 12 feet long and can be easily moved in 3 directions as the grass grows. We have lots of "critters" that roam around at night so I am putting an electric fence about 8" from the run and coop to keep them at bay. The coop was from plans by This Old House TV Show. One chick has "scissor beak" but can drink and eat fine. It took 3 days for one eye to open...other wise life is grand.Greetings I’m Thad and Melissa here from northwest ohio. I shall re-locate to the Texas thread. We joined this group years ago but have had some set backs health wise and think both me and my bride of nearly 50 years are well mended. Thus the new coop and flock. Life is good!!Hi Shari and Jake. Come on over to the Texas thread!
