Greetings from Washington State!
Growing up my family had 12 hens--barred rock, rhode island reds, sex links, and buff orpingtons. My husband and I just got 8 chicks. 5 are 4 weeks old, and 3 are 3 weeks old.
We have 1 white leghorn, 1 buff orpington, 2 buff brahmas, 2 sex links, 2 rhode island reds, and 1 mystery chick (which we think is a chocolate orpington).
Growing up I loved how chickens had such personalities. Having them run after you when you bring out food, or even in one instance having a hen lay an egg on your lap! They are just fun and useful animals.

My husband and I are both teachers--I teach 2nd grade and he teaches 5th. We are renovating a 1970s home while raising a 15 month old daughter and a rambunctious 2 year old German shepherd. We love all things outdoors! Walks, runs, hikes...summer is my favorite time of year!
While we like being outside, we do enjoy watching TV and playing video games.

What brought me to BYC is looking for some insight and tips to raising chicks and hens. There's just so much *stuff* and information online it's hard to keep things straight. I thought I would give this a try so I can get information tailored to our unique chicken-raising needs!
