i am new to the back yard chicken, and loving it! i have 2 barred rocks, petunia and violet. recently lost daisy to an evil but hungry hawk. i will be getting some more in the spring. thinking of silkies, although i really love my friendly barred rocks. they are hunkered down right now with the big nor'easter blowing around.

Mine are too and will not come out of the coop. It's the first time mine have ever seen snow. We don't usually get any here.

Barred Rocks are a great breed.

But if you want broodies, I've heard Silkies are the way to go.
