Hi. I was invited to your forum by an existing member. (Thank-you) I have 8 hens - 3 buffs, 3 golden links, 1 red star and 1 arachana. They're nice hens - but those golden links are total sweethearts and boy do they love to lay eggs. We have a very pretty little rooster joining our flock at the end of Sept. when I can pick him up. I can't wait. We lost ours a few weeks ago and I sure miss his crowing.

We recently added a pot bellied pig to our family...she wasn't handled very much - but she's coming around. Anyone else here have a pot belly too?

I do have a question. I have never wintered chickens. They have a coop - and of course we can stuff it full of straw - is that enough for these cold northern nights? (BTW I live in South Central MN) Would love some advice on how to winter over my flock.

Thanks Everyone! Looking forward to exchanging information.

Hi &

. Your chickens should do well in winter. They do not need a heated coop but make sure it is not drafty. It needs vents so, they get fresh air. If your roost are flat 2x4's it will help the birds be able to cover their toes and keep them warm. Good Luck!

Thank-you! I'll do that with the 2x4's. Never thought of that and need to make a new roost anyway.

Appreciate the tip...
