Grey and white hawk

Cooper's Hawk would be my guess. More common than the Sharp Shinned which is North America's smallest hawk although still large enough to grab a month old chick. I have a Cooper's Hawk that hangs around my bird feeders, but doesn't bother my 5 month old pullets.

Falcon most common with those colors . They are experts at snatching birds in flight too . I recommend you cover your runs with poultry netting .
Run is covered and my rooster is no joke unfortunately the chicks snuck through the fence and were alone in the front where there is a lot of open area

My wife and I think this is the closest thing to what we saw. I know this isn't it because this is an eagle that is about 26 inches. The one we saw was about 12 to 14 inches tall

A hungry one. Sorry couldn't resist

Seriously though you'd know if it was a red tailed hawk. My vote is for Cooper hawk also. There is a pulse of Coopers hawks in TX during their fall migration but there are some that hang out year round here.

Too small to carry off anything but chicks. Once they are too big they will swoop down kill and consume the victim in place. Once a bird of prey learns how to get an easy meal they stick around till it's not so easy and then move on. Had a Coopers hawk swoop down into my open run and nail a young pullet. Couldn't carry it away so ate it inside the run with the 5 worthless roosters watching I assume. Only one incidence of this so I guess he kept moving with the migration.

Dang that sucks if they would have been in the back of the house I don't think it would have happened. My rooster is a mean bast attacks anything that moves squirrels, crows, a rabbit, even the dog not people. Cooper's hawk got a acorn from a slingshot right in the chest.
