Grey chalk like stuff on my eggs.

I get a egg every now & again that has this chalk like stuff on it and its grey. It dont wash off either. Any1 know what this is?

It's probably the BLOOM, the natural anti-bacterial coating that hens leave on their eggs. If you ever watch a hen lay an egg, or find one just after it's been laid, you'll see that it's wet. This wetness soon dries, and sometimes it looks somewhat powdery. You certainly don't need to wash it off. It's intended to protect the porous eggshell from bacteria invasion. That's why fresh eggs don't spoil when left out of the refrigerator. It's really fascinating!
