Greyhound with food allergies, what dogfood should I feed?

It depends on what she's allergic to. What are you feeding her now?

We feed the Southern States Complete Brand. It's main ingredient is suppossed to be a meat. It would be hard to tell what they are allergic too!

usually you start out with a limited ingredient food. I know of greys that were not truly allergic to the food but the dye/coloring used in the food.....Many blame soy, some grains for the allergies. I have used limited ingredint food for a cat, started with duck/pea. There are a few brands that make such diets. Some are sold through vets office. If it would be one of my greys I would probably try one of the 'natural/holistic' types, I know there is a bison based food, a couple of no or very limited grain foods in dry and canned form available. I can search for a few brands if you need more info but you also need to check what is availble in your area. Other option is to switch to a raw or homemade diet, heavy on meat protein - starting with one type of meat and maybe one grain like barley or some less commonly used grain in petfood and maybe one veggie. If it seems to work, you can - after a while - slowly add one different thing at a time. If the dog develops symptoms, at least you know what the most likely culprit is. First I would cut out all food/treats with food coloring and preservativestoo. I think Evo makes a good food with high meat/limited grain, ? Call of the Wild has a bison based food, Solid Gold has a couple possible choices but I can't remember all the brands of the top of my head......Good luck, do you have retired racers?

My Malamute Tala had allergies and the only food that she did not react to was Natural Balance

I agree with trying a grain free food. Another common food allergy for dogs is chicken!

This web site gives nutritional reviews of a lot of different dog foods with 5 & 6 star foods being the best.

I feed my dogs Taste of the Wild which is a grain free food which can be found at Tractor Supply as well as some pet stores. Although many grain free and other high quality foods may be more expensive per pound than other foods they can be equal or cheaper in the long run as you can feed less as it does not have fillers in it.

My dog is allergic to (what seems like) everything, she was tested. The one food that we found that she will eat and actually seems to like is Natures Choice - Venison and Rice for healthy skin. She was driven crazy with itching no matter what we did, including allergy shots. It wasn't until we switched her food that she stopped....completely with the itching. Food allergies are one of the most common causes of itching (if it's not fleas). Corn is one of the worst culprits. Good luck and it's worth a try.

I have 2 Jack Russells that had severe problems, I switched to "Taste of The Wild" sold at Tractor Supply, it is grain free and both of mine are better.
