Grit and Oyster Shell On the side?

So it is possible to give them too much oyster shells? I have been mixing it into the layer ration for a few months now because it seems they wont eat it on the side, and i had weeks where i was getting these weird, thin shelled eggs.

I picked up two bowls that attach to the cage of the coup yesterday and the girls now have grit and oyster shells at will. Thanks.
