Grit and Oyster shell?

Hello! I was wondering if the chickens will naturally go to the container with grit and oyster shell in it, or if they will need teaching. Should I mix it in with their food?

You can keep a dish of it in their pen and they will take it when they need it.

My chicks took to the grit just as easily as their food! I would keep them all separate. They will 'self-medicate' so to speak, if needed!

I have noticed they certainly eat more of it if you add it to the bottom of their feeders. But they still take it on its own.
