I was just wondering, it is it better to mix the grit in with the food or have it on the side. The guidelines on the bag said you can do either. So I put some of the grit and a little sand in a pie pan in the brooder, and the chicks love to scratch and peck at it, and still do eat at their food, but it seems they spend more time in the scratch!

I also put a little cardboard box in one of the corners of the brooder, and they LOVE to to go into it and peck and scratch and peck! Silly chickies!

If your feeding your chicks starter they don't need grit, and you have to be careful they can eat too much which will impact their crop.

New to all this myself.....at what age do you move your chicks off of the starter feed and onto 'regular' feed and grit?
