What age do I start giving my chicks grit? What are different ways to give then grit? I was told I could take a chunk of grass out of my yard and give them that for grit?

The sod from your yard is a great way to introduce them to the various things they will be exposed to when they are put out in their coop and run.
Yes, they will be able to get some grit from the little stones they may find in the sod plug.
You can get a small bag of chick grit at TSC. Put it in a separate container that is secured so it can't be tipped over. I started offering chick grit and sod plugs in the second week.

The first couple days, I sprinkle a bit of chick grit on their food or if you are using paper towels or something like that in the brooder, you can sprinkle grit on the paper towels. Then after a few days, I give them a separate chick feeder with grit.

I mix Chick Grit with Chick Starter for 8 weeks. 2 ounces Grit/5 pounds of Starter, beginning at 2 weeks old. 1/40 ratio. .
I offer Poultry Grit separately at 7 weeks. . GC

I bought about a 2 gallon bag of granite grit from the local mill, they put it in their chicken scratch. Ran it thru a colander with 1/16" holes. Bagged the smaller stuff for the chicks and sprinkle some over a chunk of sod in the brooder during the second week.
