Grit

anytime. It is not going to hurt them to have it early.

also depends on what you are feeding them. If they eat commerical feed (chick feed, ground layer..etc) they dont necessarily need it. If they are eating corn or seeds they will need grit

I have sand on the floor of my coop/run and they eat the sand as their form of grit.

I agree with an earlier post about it not being too soon to introduce it to them. When they are ready, they will eat it (and whatever else they need to supplement their diet).

My little babies have had grit since I got them 2 months ago. I do know that grit is a must for chickens its for the digestion in their crawl. I get a 5lb bag @ Tractor Supply which goes along away when you mix it with their food.

I offer my incubator hatched chicks sand/dirt on day 3. When I have a broody who hatches, by day 3 she is out and about with her chicks in the dirt/sand.

For my indoor chicks I offer the sand/dirt/grit in a plastic sandwich container - almost full. The chicks will bathe, eat, scratch and really enjoy the sandbox.
