I just put my chickens in my coop yesterday. they are 7 weeks old and there eating grass now. Some of it is high and going to seed. I think I need to give them some grit but the grit in the store looks like it is pretty big pieces. Is grit all the same or do I need a certain type for chickens this old? thanks

If they are outside, they should be getting grit from the ground while they are pecking and scratching around.

We have been giving our 8 week olds grit made especially for baby chicks for the past month (graduating up from parakeet gravel/sand)--it is red granite so you can tell it apart easily from the adult grit. It probably wouldn't hurt to make it available to them in their coop just in case. We got ours at the feed store. We haven't moved our chicks outside yet but do give them a lot of extras outside of their feed like spinach leaves, fruit, etc. so we have been diligent about making sure they had the grit as well.
