ahhh yes, shrimp and grits -- gotta love em.

hey i was just in Isle of Palms SC last week -- a week on the beach is so good for the soul. Love the area, really would love to live there.

I like brown sugar on mine if I am eating them for breakfast. If it is for another meal, then you can't beat Shrimp and Grits.... hmmmm.....
I made grits with fish about a month ago, and the recipe called for bits of bacon and some chedar cheese and seasoning. I need to look up the seasoning - they were SO GOOD! I think it was paprika and pepper, and maybe some galic.

once the grits are cooked and still hot pop in the cheese and butter and viola a master piece of good food.

oh and you have to cook the grits with salt added to the water otherwise they just don't taste right.

Okay awesome! Thanks! Im going to try that tomorrow!!! haha

Sugar on grits is an abomination.

Otherwise you can eat them with pretty much anything. When I cook breakfast I like brown up some chopped veggies (onions and sweet peppers in particular) in the pan I just cooked the ham/bacon in (pour out nearly all of the grease) them serve them on top of the grits. Or a little powdered chipotle. Or hot sauce. Red eye gravy is always good.

Pour the hot grits into a pan then let them cool until stiff. Cut into slices and fry. Polenta is just Italian for grits or corn meal mush. Anything you can do with polenta you can do with grits.

LOVE LOVE LOVE grits! I guess that's a requirement when you are from the deep South. I agree that sugar on them is just wrong, but to each their own. Personally, I like them best with cheese and maybe a dash of garlic, but I have had them several ways that were very good.
Grits with gouda cheese and garlic
Grits with cheddar cheese
Shrimp and grits-YUMMM
Grits with a fried egg chopped up and mixed in
Grits with gravy
Grits made with cream instead of water, then cheese added
Grits with mushrooms
You can do just about anything you want with them. They are a very versatile food!
