The WM stores do have better prices in our area. For years I've kept a notebook with the prices of items I frequently buy that are available at Shop-Rite (grocery), BJ's (wholesale club) and WM. In 9 out of 10 items, WM has a better price. I go by the "unit" price. In a store like BJ's where everything is supersized, so that's the only way I can compare. I update it frequently too. The Acme almost never has a bargain. An Aldi's recently opened up in our area, but I haven't checked them yet.
