Have you tried WinCo Organic Layer Feed?

Usual run down. Protein is borderline, more importantly, Met levels are bare minimum, and Lys levels are ok for adult layers, but below recommends for almost everything else. Calcium levels are typical layer formulation, fat, fiber, salt levels all fine. The bottom third of the ingredients are a premix. Origanum oil (oregano) Cinnamon bark oil (I almost wonder if its real cinnamon or the common substitute), Thyme oil are more buzz words to drive sales than anything else. Yes, active components in those oils have some benefits, in some conditions, for some period of time - but not knowing what the concentrations are, or whether those conditions are present...

...and as a (largely) whole grain feed, you are going want to offer that as a wet mash or sprouted feed to keep birds from eating themselves into nutritional deficiencies by selecting favorites and leaving the rest (based on position in the flock pecking order).

You couldn't pay me to feed that to my birds, but my flock and my needs are much different from your own.

So are the pellets better than scratch & peck layer feed?
It comes down to convenience and preference. If you do feed whole grains like scratch and peck makes, you must make a mash with it or ferment it else they can just pick out what they want and get malnourished. Pellets and crumbles you can just set out and not have to worry. I do think you could get a nutritionally superior feed for much less money though
