Gross and Evil or Efficient?

I would never buy 'vegetarian fed hens or eggs' for my family they cram these birds full of soy (they even brag about it on the label) soy contains a plant based form of estrogen and don’t get me wrong I love soy beans and tofu but to much estrogen messes with a persons hormonal balance no way am I going to pay 3x the price just to risk suppressing my sons testosterone production and I certainly don’t want to risk messing with my husbands hormonal balance I couldn’t handle it if we started cycling together (the horror)

P.S. the scientist who rails against the overuse of soy is a biased raving lunatic homophobe I don’t agree with his beliefs but I do agree that to much of anything especially a plant based hormone that fools our bodies is a bad thing

LOVED this. Spewed my drink all over my keyboard....

Yes, veggie eggs seem absurd to me, as chickens are omnivores and certainly love their meat, including chicken. I suspect that those who feed dogs and cats a veggie diet are making a mistake as well.

I do wish there were more research on animals eating their own kind, though. I have a sneaky suspicion this is not wise. There used to be (maybe still is) a rumor in the medical community that eating one's own kind could cause a type of dementia similar to mad cow disease. It's not a matter of believing rumors, it's a matter of doubting that we are told all that is known.... Kind of like UFO's: I don't have any beliefs whether aliens are or are not here, or have been, but I do feel strongly that we are not told all there is to know.

There is a disease in humans, CJD, similar to mad cow. I am familiar with a patient who died of it. The story was that he was a refugee, I think Korean, who wound up in one of those awful situations, a small boat adrift and people starving and dying.... Here is a post from a blog I found:

The correct spelling is Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. CJD definitely does NOT preferentially strike Jews. It strikes anyone who was exposed to the prion, which is a rogue protein which basically makes certain proteins in your body change shape and become ineffective. It is readily transmitted by body fluids. It mainly strikes the brain, causing a diffuse encephalopathy sometimes referred to as "Swiss cheese brain". The disease is related to Mad Cow Disease, but they are not synonymous.

There is a lot of information available on the internet and in medical reference texts. The exact mechanism of action is not fully explained yet, but we're getting closer.

Either way, I gave my hens and roo a chicken carcass yesterday and I could almost here them screaming yippie...they were the haqppiest I have seen them in a long time and I can't even go outside because my girls start chattering to me to bring them some treats. The are very spoiled and I don't mind that at all, they give me I give them, that is the agreement we came to.

I will also add that back a few months ago my girls all came down with some type of respiratory thing so they were given Tylan 50. Well knowing that Tylan is not good for us to consum I simply scrambled all the eggs for each day (about 14 of them), and gave it back to them. I have never had so many double yolked eggs and I cintyribute that to the extra protein, but who knows.

Just a thought.
