Gross problem! Help!

Yes, be careful with gasoline. I used to know a mechanic that put a cup of gasoline in the washing machine to get the grease out of his clothers.

Ever once in a while we drive by where his house used to be before the fire. You might get away with something a thousand times, but it is the one time you don't that gets you.

LOL I totally thought you were washing your chickens too! I was being polite and not mentioning that they probably didn't like showers or being scrubbed raw! ROFLMAO!!!

Use lemon juice or a citrus based cleaning product. Another idea might be to mix some baking soda with warm water and soak your hands in it (not sure if you call it baking soda in the States, it is bicarb of soda).

you think chicken smell is bad...try billy goat.

Rinsing your hands in vinegar might work. Good luck, you get used to it after a while. The chicken smell anyway...

I use alot of bleach and I can't stand the smell on my hands (too stupid to wear gloves).

I find lemon juice works very well for it. Also Equate brand acne wash (salicylic acid) really
helps on the stubborn odors. I found out by accident. I thought I was using Kitchen Fresh Hands(by Softsoap) and it turned out to be my son's acne wash we got from Target.

They both had similiar color liquid and the pump bottle is similiar. Now I reach for it as first choice - as a bonus, no acne on my hands.Duh!

PeeperKeeper wrote: Do a saline rinse of your sinuses. I had this problem working in the hospital with GI bleeders. Gross smelling feces. Would still smell it after showering. Its stuck up in your sinus cavities

That's what I'd guess as well. An N-95 rated mask might help when the `dust' is flying.

You can also spray orange oil and water mix in your coop after birds are out and let it dry before they return, it will get out the smell and should kill any creepy crawlies that may be in there. You can also use it on your hands.

good luck.

Hmmm, I think you should follow Peeperkeeper's advice & do a saline rinse of your sinuses as well as washing your hands w/ something citrus (orange, lemon, grapefruit, etc.) or vinegar. You mentioned that you have cuts on your hands...unfortunately, it's gonna sting.

I wouldn't do gasoline.

Yup, we call in baking soda here too.

I'd try the saline wash for your nose.
Seriously, if I visit people who smoke I can shower, change, whatever and I still smell smoke - I DO think it gets stuck in your nose!

We buy the cheap dust masks at Walmart or the hardware store for the monthly poop cleaning in the coop. And Costco has boxes of nitrile gloves at a reasonable price. They are nice for keeping your hands out of the poop and disinfectant. We only wear certain shoes out to the coop, even for collecting eggs. And those shoes stay out on the porch, not inside to drag chicken poo all over my wood floors. When we do the monthly cleaning we stop at the laundry room on the way to the shower and dump all of the clothes in one load so we don't smell up everything else in the house.
