Ground hog eating garden

IF U GONNA KILL THEM ANYWAY ''one bite bait bars'' do it for u & u don't have neighbors callin' cops when u shoot silly people I got coyotes to shoot & neighbors who should mind there own business lost 9 og 11 geese half my little ducks & 15 chickens to them 4 legged killers a predator is a predator wheather it's livestock or veggies.
:barnieI HATE NO GOOD BUSY BODY neighbors. :he

My neighbors don't care if i shoot varmints, they are always shooting over there. I have not seen the critter yet and i have planted more veggies. The hot wire is on from dusk until husband gets up. Hopefully the critter got discouraged and will not be back.

You should be able to find the openings to the groundhog den pretty easily. They like overhead cover, like a shed or slab foundation. There are always two openings to their den. They are dormant/sleeping at night. I think they are miserable terrain terrorists. They are pretty territorial, so usually only have one in any square acre area. I was unfortunate enough to have two springs where there were litters. Five or size of those wretched things destroying anything they could find.

We are not allowed to trap and re-home them here and we are only on less than 2 acres, so cannot shoot them either. I put a pvc pipe deep into the opening, pour in bleach and then ammonia anc had a piece of plywood to cover the size of the hole. The fumes will kill them in their den and no more issues.

I had to run turkey wire on the ground and then 3" of RCA in my garden. I have all raised beds. I fenced it up 8' and threw netting across the top of it. My garden is 40' x 60', so it took a bit of work, but I got it all done. The only issue I have is voles and they are not interested in the veggies.

A ''have-a-hart'' live trap can be transported a long way away from where ever it is that trap & release is frowned upon. just sayin' GBA

JIM===FOLLOWED ur post except ''RCA'' ? ? ? GBA
Recycled Concrete Aggregate...as in when they tear up the highway, they drop the big pieces into a grinder and you get small pieces out the back end of it.

Where I am Dr. Arnett, it is a $5,000 fine to remove a groundhog from your property and drop it some place else, period. You cannot even bring it to a preserve.

If i caught the groundhog, it would be shot, skinned, gutted, cooked and fed to the animals. I need some return on all those veggies.
I forgot to say we are on 13 acres of land on a river with steep banks, almost completely wooded and hilly. For probably 100 years no one has done anything in the woods except hunt , drink beer and build a cabin. There are old dead trees laying around all over the place. The only thing i can say about the location of the den is , it is not inside the garden or under the house. I have not seen the animal or any tracks. Just disappearing veggies
