Ground oyster shells vs. egg shells

I always wondered how people with a joined flock are able to feed certain chickens that are on different diet from the rest.

It's pretty easy.

Figure out which chickens need the highest protein, and which need the least calcium. (Probably young chicks for both of those.) Then buy an appropriate food for those chickens.

Feed that food to the whole flock, and put out a dish of oyster shell.

A bit of extra protein won't hurt the other chickens, and the laying hens can get their calcium from the oyster shell.

This is exactly what I've done for the last 2 years.

Was curious to see who uses ground oyster shells or who uses eggs shells to ensure extra calcium to help with egg laying especially during the colder months. Which did chickens prefer and did you introduce it to them by itself in a dish or mixed in with their feed?! I was worried about them starting to peck at their eggs after laying cause I read that happens because they end up enjoying the taste of egg shells!
I feed oyster shells but either work

I meant if you have chickens that are on different feeds not the oyster. What if you have chickens that are on layer feed and chickens that are on grower feed? How can you make sure those chickens that are on grower feed aren’t tapping into the layer feed?

We just got our first eggs last week, and all I've been giving them are crushed eggshells. Their eggshells are solid!
I’ve been doing the egg shells so far I had the older hen literally lay one egg a couple weeks ago and hasn’t since my younger ones haven’t even laid yet at all! So I went and picked up some oyster shells from my local feed store I’m hoping it does the trick for my ladies! 🤞🏼

Read carefully.
