Ground oyster shells vs. egg shells

I’ve been doing the eggshells for a bit now! How long should it take before it works? I just went yesterday evening and got them some oyster shells so hoping that works for them.

Yea it’s been longer then that. Maybe they just need the oyster shells to help get them up and running again. I’ve read a few people had to use oyster shells first to give them that extra boost. Hopefully that’s the case.

Oyster shell will not make them lay sooner....they'll lay when they are ready...they are closer than they've ever been

Are you feeding layer feed?

You know, from researching within this forum, I decided to keep our hens on grower feed and supplement the calcium. They seem to like it - just picked up another bag today, as a matter of fact, from TS.

I mix egg shell with oyster shell, recycle and reuse, lol... my BO actually prefers the egg shell

When they are ready to lay, oyster shells or egg shells will help them produce proper shells. Neither will MAKE them lay. Age, time of year, health, and day light hours determine WHEN they will lay. Provide the proper care and feed. Your chickens will take it from there.
